Which crypto trading calculator should I use?

Match the tool to the decision: position size and risk/reward for planning risk; futures or long/short PnL for closed-trade outcomes; liquidation for leveraged downside; funding for holding-cost estimates; DCA/Martingale and grid for bot structure; average entry for multi-fill cost basis; stop-loss / take-profit for exit geometry.

Most workflows combine two tools — size the trade first, then stress liquidation or fees.

How does leverage affect futures PnL and margin?

For a fixed base quantity on a linear USDT-margined contract, absolute PnL is driven by price change × quantity. Leverage mainly changes initial margin (notional ÷ leverage) and therefore ROI on margin.

Higher leverage also moves liquidation closer to entry because less buffer remains against adverse moves. Always pair leverage plans with a liquidation and position-size check.

What is maintenance margin (MMR) and why do I enter it manually?

Maintenance margin rate (MMR) is the minimum margin fraction exchanges require to keep a leveraged position open. Liquidation formulas use MMR (and sometimes tier deductions) to estimate when equity falls below that requirement.

Rates differ by venue, symbol, and notional tier, so this site asks you to enter MMR instead of pretending a single live API value fits every account.

Isolated margin vs cross margin — which model do these tools use?

Liquidation estimates here target isolated, one-way, USDT-margined linear perpetuals. Cross margin, hedge mode, portfolio margin, and inverse contracts are out of scope.

If your exchange account uses cross margin, treat the liquidation output as a rough educational bound only and confirm in the venue risk engine.

Why do some calculators ask for fees manually?

Maker/taker fees vary by exchange, VIP tier, and whether you use market or limit orders. Manual fee inputs keep the math transparent and avoid implying a live fee schedule feed.

Enter taker if you expect market fills, maker for passive grid/limit fills, or a round-trip total when the tool asks for combined entry+exit fees.
